Gyula Trebitsch

Script ONE, TWO, THREE

A few years before her involvement in ON, TWO, THREE, Liselotte Pulver had starred in Helmut Käutner’s ZÜRCHER VERLOBUNG (1957/58), produced by Walter Koppel and Guyla Trebitsch’s REALFILM.

Gyula Trebitsch (1914-2005) and Walter Koppel (1906-1982) founded the production company Real-Film in 1947, which established Hamburg as a production location with its studios in Wandsbek. Both producers had survived concentration camps and were also politically influenced by this experience and solidarity with others who had been persecuted. Their films ranged from revue films with Zarah Leander to adaptations of plays by Carl Zuckmayer. After many successful productions in Germany, DER HAUPTMANN VON KÖPENICK (1956) with Heinz Rühmann was also nominated for an Oscar. The duo parted company when television became established: Koppel, also as an association representative of the film industry, always spoke out against the new medium. Trebitsch saw the future in it and remained active as a television producer until the 1990s.
